Should the university system in Japan be reformed?
日本の大学は改革されるべきか。
With a dramatic increase in the number of universities over the last decade in Japan, I think the university system in Japan should be reformed for the fllowing reasons.
First, I would like to say about English education, since I am an English teacher as I said, I'm afraid that most of it in Japan is not effective enough to develop students' English abilities. In today's global society, a good command of English is considered essential for success, however, most of the programs are not intensive or practical enough to develop students' abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing effectively.
Second, the Japanese university education system based mainly on lectures and knowledge acquisition cannnot develop students' critical thinking ability. In order to develop it, Japanese university need to promote more active learning, such as debating, discussions, presentations, or some drama education.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that Japanese university system should be improved so that they can advance their vital abilities for the future.
