Should job promotions be based on performance or on seniority?
昇進制度は能力制と年功序列制かどちらに基づくべきか
There have been a lot of discussions and debates in Japan whether companies should adopt performance-based or seniority-based promotion system. Personally, I think that job promotions should be based on performance for the following reasons.
The first point is that the performance-based promotion system will increase companies' productivity. If they recognize that the more they work harder, the more they can get promotions, they will be significantly motivated. As a result, it will enhance employee's work efficiency and productivity. It is obvious that they can realize job satisfaction more than seniority-based promotion system.
The second point is that the performance-based promotion system can play an important role to boosting the national economy. It will increase the number of skilled workers by motivating workers to hone their skills. It will lead us to developing the economy, furthermore, enhancing the quality of their life.
In conclusion, for the reasons I mentioned, increasing productivity and contributing to the economic growth, I strongly believe that job promotions should be based on performance.
